The ' Just In Time ' people
Somebody told me a story. Two people met at a railway
station in the morning hours. Both were waiting for train. The train arrived.
One looked at his watch and exclaimed. “Why is this train late by 30 seconds
today?” The other was like ROFL. The first one continued “Sir, it is 30 seconds
for you, it is 30seconds for me. But there are 2000 people in this train. Tell
me how many hours of work did the country lose?”
Sorry, I was trying to tell you something else.
You have always met those people who reach Just in Time.
They never arrive late they never reached early too. They are always on time.
How do they manage to?
Well, they manage their time in a better way. They are happy
even if they don’t get a seat in the bus they travel every day. They just care
about one thing – catch the bus; which they do without fail. And they are
happy. Blessed to start their day with an accomplishment.
Hence Rule no. 1 – Have a clear goal in mind; Identify the
real goal.
I am not concerned with those people who make others to wait
for them. It’s equally important to understand that time is valuable for others
too.
I love analytics and mathematics. Let’s have some.
The morning bell in school rings at 9 am in the morning. But
the 9 am bus rarely reach at 9 am sharp. But still? These people? How come?
Those Just in Time people…!!! Aww…..!!!
So your goals in both these cases are different too. You
don’t have to reach the bus stop at 9 am. You have to catch the bus even if it
reaches there at 9.05 or even if it reaches there at 8.55.Sixth sense?
Observe – On which days of the week does your bus reach your
stop late? Normally buses reach late on days when less people prefer to use
buses. (when a day in a week is half day at office, people prefer to either bunk
it or use a car to commute, most of the people don’t turn up to office on dates
around religious festivals/ celebrations. )
Hence comes our rule no. 2 – Observe the surroundings, form
patterns- act accordingly.
Rule no.3 – Plan everything starting with the goal in mind.
How much time will you have to walk to the bus stop? Did you
get out of your house in time? How much time do you have with you to enjoy your
breakfast? Make the most of your time J
Rule no. 4- Keep track of your time
I have always heard my mom tell – “Oh it’s 6.30; time for
pooja”, as soon as news starts on the radio. Now I have an alarm set for the
morning. It plays for10 minutes(Plays Adele’s skyfall twice fully and then for
a minute). When it gets over I will have
to stop whatever I was doing and go to change my dress.
Rule no. 5 – Try it only if you have everything that takes
you to achieve success readily available and under your control.
What if everything until coming out from your house went on
as planned, but you didn’t get an auto to take you to the bus stop? Make sure
that everything that takes you to achieve success readily available and under
your control.
Rule no. 6 –Have your
buffer time based on how athletic you are. ( These JIT people are generally
more athletic :P )
Finally have a plan B and a plan C too.
Tail end – I save atleast five minutes everyday when
compared to others waiting for the samebus at the same stop.
well.. i try to be JIT people. But for that I have to skip my breakfast and sometimes brushing my teeth. true story.
